    Man killed after Volkswagen overturns in ‘severe crash’ with Tesla, Tampa police report

    TAMPA, FL – July, 2026 – A man in his mid-30s died after a two-car crash involving a Tesla and a Volkswagen on North Florida Avenue in Tampa, according to Tampa police.

    Officers said they received reports of a severe crash shortly after 7 a.m. in the 11600 block of North Florida Avenue. Investigators said the Tesla was traveling north at a high rate of speed while the Volkswagen was traveling south and attempting a left-hand turn into a local dealership.

    According to officials, the two vehicles collided, and the Volkswagen was struck on the passenger side. The impact caused the Volkswagen to overturn, leaving the driver critically injured. First responders attempted to save his life, but he later died from his injuries. His name had not been released at the time of reporting.

    The Tesla driver, described as a man in his early 20s, also suffered injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Officials said he was in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon.

    Northbound lanes of Florida Avenue between Fowler Avenue and Bougainvillea Avenue were closed for several hours while investigators gathered evidence. All lanes later reopened.

    Detectives asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Tampa Police at 813-231-6130 and refer to report number 26-389275.
