ST. PETERSBURG, FL – May, 2026 – A teen died in St. Petersburg after losing control of his vehicle.
The St. Petersburg Police Department said Sunday that 18-year-old Angel Burke, of St. Pete, died following a crash near 6818 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street North.
Police said Burke was driving a Dodge Charger south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North toward 70th Avenue North. As he attempted to overtake another vehicle, officers said he lost control on the rain-slick roadway, according to SPPD.
The Charger then slid sideways and struck a tree on the driver’s side. Officers said Burke was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck.
In Pinellas County so far in 2026, there have been 4,242 traffic crashes, leading to 16 fatalities and 2,636 injuries, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
