    I-75 crash in Bradenton causes hours of delays

    BRADENTON, FL – May, 2026 – A pickup truck drifted into a Jeep early Thursday, triggering a wreck that shut down traffic on I-75 for roughly three hours.

    The collision occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. on southbound I-75 near State Road 64. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a pickup started swaying, the driver lost control, and the vehicle rolled over before hitting a Jeep traveling south at mile marker 222.

    The pickup, which was towing a trailer, came to rest across the southbound lanes and scattered debris over the roadway. According to FHP, the crash closed four lanes of travel. Vehicles inched past using the left shoulder, but the slowdown created a six-mile traffic jam and delays topping an hour. Motorists were backed up as far as Interstate 275 on I-75 southbound.

    U.S. 41 south, as well as U.S. 301 through Palmetto and Bradenton, also crawled as drivers searched for alternate routes to avoid I-75.

    Law enforcement and FHP spent about three hours clearing debris and repositioning vehicles before all lanes fully reopened. Authorities said there were no injuries reported.

    “Plan ahead, think now, and that way we won’t have an incident like this moving forward,” an official said.

    Earlier Thursday morning, another rollover in Charlotte County on I-75 at the Peace River Bridge contributed to additional delays. That incident took about 45 minutes to clear and slowed traffic on both sides of the Peace River.

    Travel times have returned to normal levels.
