POLK CITY, FL – March, 2026 – A deadly three-vehicle crash in Polk County is being investigated.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a black 2022 Harley-Davidson and a red-and-black 2017 Harley-Davidson, ridden by a man and a woman, were traveling next to each other in the southbound lanes of Commonwealth Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday when a Dodge Charger hit them head-on. Investigators said the Charger was heading northbound in the southbound lanes while attempting to pass three other vehicles during the Polk County head on motorcycle crash.
After the collision, detectives reported that the male rider flew from his motorcycle, and a white 2011 Jeep Compass traveling northbound in the proper lanes struck him.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the wreck in the 15000 block of Commonwealth Avenue (State Road 33), roughly six miles north of Polk City. When they arrived, they said both motorcyclists were pronounced dead at the scene. Notably, the Polk County head on motorcycle crash resulted in fatal consequences.
Paramedics transported two Dodge occupants to a nearby hospital. The driver, 75-year-old Richard Lee Logan of Clermont, later died from crash injuries. His passenger, a 75-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries. In summary, the Polk County head-on motorcycle crash has become a major concern for the community.
Authorities said the Jeep’s driver stayed at the scene and was unhurt.
Commonwealth Avenue stayed closed for about four and a half hours because of the severity of the crash scene and the amount of debris.
Officials continue the investigation and do not expect charges.
