JACKSONVILLE, Duval County, FL, October 20, 2026: An 18-year-old Jacksonville man died Tuesday evening after a Heckscher Drive and Milton Drive motorcycle crash with an SUV. The fatal crash closed Heckscher Drive in both directions for several hours as authorities investigated the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the collision happened around 5:38 p.m.
According to investigators, the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Heckscher Drive; however, he then entered the eastbound lane and passed several vehicles in a no-passing zone.
Meanwhile, a 54-year-old Bradenton woman was driving an SUV westbound ahead of the motorcycle.
Then, as the SUV driver began a left turn onto Milton Drive, the motorcycle’s front struck the SUV’s left rear.
As a result, the motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the Heckscher Drive motorcycle crash.
Additionally, FHP said the rider wore a helmet. Still, authorities had not publicly released his name in the reports reviewed for this article.
In contrast, FHP said the SUV driver wore a seat belt and did not suffer injuries.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Heckscher Drive and Milton Drive, east of the Blount Island area in Jacksonville.
Shortly afterward, emergency crews responded while investigators examined the roadway; consequently, officials shut down Heckscher Drive in both directions for several hours.
Meanwhile, Heckscher Drive—also known as State Road 105 along parts of the corridor—serves communities and industrial areas on Jacksonville’s Northside.
Notably, according to FHP’s preliminary investigation, the motorcycle passed vehicles in the opposing lane before the crash.
More broadly, traffic crash investigations often rely on multiple forms of evidence before authorities reach final conclusions. For instance, investigators may examine vehicle damage, roadway markings, physical evidence, witness statements, traffic or surveillance footage, and other information related to each vehicle’s movements.
However, public information did not immediately indicate either vehicle’s speed before impact or identify other contributing factors.
Therefore, because the investigation remains preliminary, readers should not interpret the reported sequence beyond what law enforcement has released.
