FORT LAUDERDALE, Broward County, FL, October 19, 2026: A multi-vehicle crash injured two people on southbound Interstate 95 near Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale on Monday afternoon. Crews had to extricate one person from a vehicle, and paramedics transported another to Broward Health Medical Center.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded after damaged vehicles blocked traffic along one of Broward County’s busiest highway corridors.
The collision happened Monday afternoon in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Sunrise Boulevard.
According to Local 10, emergency personnel arrived around 3:50 p.m., just north of the Sunrise Boulevard interchange.
Meanwhile, WSVN’s 7Skyforce captured aerial footage showing several damaged vehicles. In the video, multiple vehicles appeared to have front-end damage, and airbags had deployed inside some of them.
However, authorities have not said exactly how many vehicles were involved or explained how the chain of collisions began.
Still, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue confirmed that two people suffered injuries.
In addition, officials said one person became trapped inside a vehicle, and responders helped that person get out. Afterward, paramedics transported an injured woman to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.
Even so, officials have not disclosed the nature or severity of either person’s injuries in the initial reports.
Earlier, WSVN reported that crews hospitalized one person and extricated another. Later, Local 10, citing Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, reported that two people were injured.
As a result, the collision disrupted traffic through the I-95 corridor near Sunrise Boulevard as crews responded.
Because the crash occurred during the Monday afternoon travel period, damaged vehicles remained across parts of the highway while first responders treated the injured and cleared the scene.
Additionally, WSVN reported traffic delays while crews worked at the crash site. During part of the response, crews kept at least two lanes open.
Consequently, drivers traveling through central Broward County faced delays as authorities investigated and removed the damaged vehicles.
So far, authorities have not announced a fault determination in connection with the Fort Lauderdale crash.
For now, WSVN reported that authorities are investigating what caused the collision.
Likewise, Florida Highway Patrol has not identified a cause, announced a fault determination, or cited specific factors such as speeding, distraction, impairment, or unsafe lane changes in the initial reporting.
Therefore, because the investigation remains open, reports should not present those possibilities as causes unless authorities release additional findings.
