FL – December, 2025 – A crash involving a 2015 Freightliner tractor trailer with FedEx markings and a 2021 Mercedes Benz SUV left one person dead and two injured in the southbound lanes at Mile Marker 55, where the Turnpike meets I-595, around 6:49 a.m., according to FHP. The Florida Turnpike crash near the I-595 intersection resulted in all lanes except one being blocked, and traffic cameras showed heavy congestion as drivers merged into the single open lane. How did the collision occur?
Authorities said the Mercedes SUV was stopped in the center lane when the FedEx truck could not avoid it and struck the rear. The impact of the Florida Turnpike crash at I-595 pushed the SUV southeast where it hit a concrete median wall. (NBC 6 South Florida)
Were there fatalities or injuries?
A 36-year-old Miami woman who was a passenger in the SUV died at the scene. The SUV’s driver suffered serious injuries. The FedEx driver, a 57-year-old Naples man, was injured.
