Two Killed, Two Seriously Injured in Davenport Crash on U.S. 17/92

DAVENPORT, Polk County, FL, September 19, 2026: Two people died, and two others suffered serious injuries after a near head-on Davenport U.S. 17/92 crash crash involving two sedans late Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.

According to FHP, the crash happened around 11:55 p.m. near West James Street.

Investigators said a 41-year-old Davenport man was driving a Honda sedan southbound on U.S. 17/92. Then, near West James Street, the Honda crossed into the northbound lane and struck a northbound Nissan sedan almost head-on.

In the Nissan, a 37-year-old Kissimmee man was driving. Additionally, two passengers were with him: a 34-year-old Winter Haven man and a 45-year-old Kissimmee woman.

As a result of the Davenport U.S. 17/92 crash, all four people suffered serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals. However, the Nissan driver and the 45-year-old female passenger later died from their injuries.

Authorities said the 34-year-old passenger from Winter Haven remained hospitalized with serious injuries in the initial release. Similarly, the Honda driver also remained hospitalized with serious injuries.

So far, authorities had not released the names of those involved as of the latest reports.

FHP has not said why the Honda crossed into the northbound lane. Moreover, reports have not shown whether speed, impairment, distraction, a medical issue, or another factor played a role.
