St. JOHNS COUNTY, FL – July, 2026 – Two drivers were killed and two passengers were seriously injured in a head-on crash on A1A in St. Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened Sunday evening on A1A, about one mile south of Mickler Road. Troopers said a 38-year-old driver from Ponte Vedra Beach was traveling north shortly before 5:30 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, his SUV crossed the center line into the southbound lane.
FHP said the northbound SUV collided head-on with a southbound SUV. Both drivers died in the crash. The southbound driver was a 20-year-old man from Clay County, according to the report.
Two passengers in the southbound SUV, ages 21 and 20, suffered serious injuries. Troopers said all three occupants of that SUV were from Clay County.
St. Johns County District 4 Commissioner Krista Joseph told News4JAX that the stretch of A1A where the crash happened can be dangerous. She pointed to concerns about drivers passing when impatient and said the county has repeatedly asked FDOT to lower the speed limit in the area as traffic increases.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
