LAKE WALES, FL – March, 2026 – A fatal traffic crash in Lake Wales, Polk County, claimed the life of an 18-year-old man on US Highway 27 near Pedalers Pond Boulevard, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).
The collision occurred just before 9:30 p.m. on US 27 near Pedalers Pond Boulevard. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, evidence and eyewitness statements indicate that an 18-year-old was traveling northbound on the highway in a 2025 black Honda four-door sedan. At the same time, another 18-year-old was traveling southbound in the center lane in a 2007 silver Pontiac sedan.
For unknown reasons, officials say the Honda lost control, crossed the grass median at Pedalers Pond Boulevard, and collided with the Pontiac. After the initial impact, the Honda was struck by a semi-truck driven by a 66-year-old woman. All drivers were wearing seat belts, officials say. The driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and was released shortly after treatment. Deputies say the 18-year-old who was driving the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene. wtsp.com
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations Unit is handling the investigation. No further details about the cause of the crash had been released at the time of the report.
