Investigators reviewed witness accounts and dash-camera footage. They determined that the motorcyclist entered the intersection against a red light and collided with a black Chevrolet Silverado. The impact threw the rider from the bike.
Police said the Ford Super Duty then entered the intersection against the red light. The pickup allegedly struck the rider, who was already in the roadway, and then collided head-on with a blue Toyota RAV4.
The 31-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries, including facial fractures and a brain bleed. He also lost consciousness after the collision. Paramedics took him to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, where staff reported him in stable condition.
Two people in the Toyota RAV4 also went to Lawnwood Hospital. Paramedics took the Chevrolet Silverado driver to St. Lucie Medical Center. In total, four people required hospital treatment after the crash.
Police arrested Lonergan after the investigation. He faces two counts of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and one count of reckless driving causing injury. After medical staff cleared him, police took him to the St. Lucie County Jail.
The crash caused a lengthy closure of the intersection while authorities investigated and cleared the roadway. Officials reopened all lanes at about 2 a.m. on August 6.
