LAKE WALES, FL – February, 2026 – A multi-vehicle crash on State Road 60 East near Capps Road in Lake Wales involved five vehicles and 11 people, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. Four people were killed, and seven others were injured. (FOX 13 Tampa Bay)
How did investigators say the crash unfolded?
Deputies reported that a Chevrolet Equinox and a Chevrolet Malibu were traveling westbound when the Equinox attempted a lane change and clipped the Malibu. The impact sent the Malibu across the median into eastbound lanes. A Toyota Tacoma then struck the Equinox on the passenger side, and all four occupants of the Equinox died. (FOX 13 Tampa Bay)
What happened after the initial impact?
Authorities reported the Malibu went airborne into the eastbound lanes and flipped multiple times, and the driver suffered significant injuries. After the initial collision, a Toyota Corolla struck the Tacoma, pushing it into the path of an F-150. Emergency responders airlifted the Tacoma driver due to significant injuries, while the Corolla driver sustained minor injuries. Four children in the Corolla suffered minimal injuries and went to a hospital as a precaution. (FOX 13 Tampa Bay)
