LANTANA, FL – June, 2026 – A fatal eight-vehicle crash in Lantana remains under investigation after one person died and two others suffered serious injuries, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported around 11:12 a.m. Tuesday at East Ocean Avenue and Dixie Highway. Authorities said the collision involved eight vehicles and nine occupants.
According to the crash report cited by WPBF, the driver of a 2017 Jeep Wrangler, identified as a 34-year-old Lake Worth Beach man, initially struck a Chevy truck while traveling southbound on Dixie Highway north of Lantana Avenue. Investigators said the Jeep then fled southbound toward Ocean Avenue at a high rate of speed.
Authorities said the Jeep failed to slow or stop for traffic ahead and struck a 2023 Mazda CX. The Mazda driver, identified as 67-year-old Jose Bedoya of Boca Raton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The impact caused a chain-reaction crash involving several additional vehicles. PBSO said the Jeep driver was seriously injured and is suspected of alcohol or drug involvement. Two others were also hospitalized with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by authorities.
