MARTIN COUNTY, FL – June, 2026 – A double fatality crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Martin County closed both directions for several hours Monday, leaving drivers stuck on the roadway and causing major traffic delays, according to WPBF 25 News.
The crash occurred near Mile Marker 132 in Palm City, near Stuart. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Martin County Fire Rescue, and Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene, with FHP leading the investigation.
According to the report, all lanes remained closed in both directions more than four hours after the crash, which was reported at 3:14 p.m. Vehicles were at a standstill for approximately 17 miles between exits. Southbound lanes reopened after 8 p.m., while the northbound right lane remained blocked before 10 p.m.
Officials advised drivers to expect significant slowdowns and to avoid the Turnpike if possible. The report also noted that Martin County had recorded five crash fatalities in three days, including another fatal Turnpike crash earlier Monday near Mile Marker 136 and a separate deadly head-on crash on Allapattah Road on Saturday morning.
The investigation into the double fatality crash remains ongoing.
