FORT MYERS, Lee County, FL, October 3, 2026: A 55-year-old man from Punta Gorda died, and several others suffered injuries, after a Fort Myers six-vehicle chain-reaction crash at Daniels Parkway and Ben C. Pratt Six Mile Cypress Parkway.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 3:51 p.m. Saturday and remains under investigation.
FHP reported that a 66-year-old Fort Myers Beach man drove a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country southbound on Six Mile Cypress Parkway when he may have suffered a medical episode.
Investigators said the Chrysler hit the rear of a 2023 Kia Forte stopped at a red light at Daniels Parkway. The impact triggered a chain reaction involving four additional vehicles waiting at the intersection.
Initial reports from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that at least six vehicles were involved and that multiple people needed medical treatment.
FHP identified the victim as a 55-year-old man from Punta Gorda who drove the Kia Forte.
He was taken to a hospital after the tragic Fort Myers six-vehicle crash, but he later died from his injuries. Authorities have not publicly released his name in the reports reviewed for this article.
Two passengers in the Kia also suffered injuries. FHP identified them as a 48-year-old woman from Punta Gorda and a 10-year-old boy from Bardstown, Kentucky. FHP described both injuries as non-incapacitating.
Emergency crews transported the 66-year-old Chrysler driver to a hospital with a non-incapacitating injury.
FHP also said emergency crews took the driver of one of the four other vehicles in the chain reaction to a hospital with a minor injury.
During the initial response, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said ambulances took five people to hospitals. South Trail Fire Protection and Rescue Service District said responders treated multiple trauma patients, including a child trapped in one of the vehicles.
The six-vehicle collision in Fort Myers caused major traffic disruption at a key intersection.
Authorities closed all southbound lanes of Six Mile Cypress Parkway at Daniels Parkway while crews treated the injured and investigators examined the scene. Responders also blocked the inside northbound lane.
The crash happened in the afternoon, and authorities told motorists to avoid the area while emergency operations continued.
FHP said the Chrysler driver may have suffered a medical episode before striking the stopped Kia. Investigators have not made a final determination about what caused the crash.
Because the investigation remains ongoing, treat the possible medical emergency as preliminary information rather than a final finding on causation or legal responsibility.
