ST. PETERSBURG, FL – December, 2025 – One person died, and several others were hurt in a car crash. The crash involved a speeding car driven by someone with a suspended license, according to St. Pete police.
Reports from law enforcement say the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night. At that time, a driver operating a Mitsubishi Outlander was traveling northbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North. As the driver got closer to the intersection, they crossed North Frontage Road. They were going through a green light, which meant they had the right of way.
Simultaneously, a blue Dodge Charger, which was being driven by 31-year-old Izell Shelby, was heading westbound on North Frontage Road at what witnesses described as a dangerously high rate of speed. Tragically, Shelby failed to stop at the red light that was facing them and collided with the Mitsubishi in the intersection, resulting in a severe crash.
After the crash, paramedics took Shelby to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sadly, doctors later declared her dead from her injuries. Fortunately, the driver of the Mitsubishi and three passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash also went to the hospital. However, medical staff reported that their injuries were non-life-threatening, providing a small relief amid the tragic circumstances.
The St. Petersburg Police Department said that Shelby was not wearing a seat belt during the accident. This may have made the situation worse. Authorities also said that Shelby had an active arrest warrant. Shelby was driving with a suspended license during the incident. The investigation into this tragic event continues as officials work to gather more information and determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
